Late video & Audio out of sync Windows XP

I have a computer in my house it has been used to watch movies for a longtime, and it unexpectedly stopped working well; I mean for example I am watching a movie and the video and audio doesn't match it's audio is out of sync probably.. is there any way to fix it? I'm tired of searching on Google

Is this an issue with multiple files, or did you only notice it in one? It could be just that file.
Other than that, your video/sound card drivers may be out of whack. A recent Windows update may have broken them, perhaps?

Have you tried using different player software?, media player classic is awesome: http://mpc-hc.org/
It also has settings for delaying the audio for out-of-sync files so you can tune it to play properly.
